Three of the Top Seven Craft Best-Sellers Are the Same Glue Stick
The craft chart is not kits and not inspiration. It is adhesive, laminate and spray paint — the things that finish work rather than start it.

Gleipnir was made of six things that do not exist — the sound of a cat’s footfall, a woman’s beard, a mountain’s roots — and it was the only thing that ever held the wolf. The chain forged of iron failed twice. The ribbon made of unlikely small things worked.
The craft chart has nothing creative in it
Amazon’s craft supplies chart is ranked by units sold. The top seven, today: laminating sheets, glue sticks, spray paint, wall-mounting strips, glue sticks, essential oil, glue sticks.
Not one kit. Not one set of anything. No inspiration, no project boxes, nothing photographed on a linen background.
And three of the seven are the same purple glue stick in different pack sizes, which is the single most honest thing on any best-seller list we have read. Nobody buys their fortieth glue stick because they saw it on Pinterest. They buy it because they ran out.
What that tells you about buying craft supplies
There is a rule hiding in that chart, and it is the opposite of how craft is sold:
The things you run out of are worth buying well and buying deep. The things you buy once are worth buying carefully and buying rarely.
Everything on the list above is in the first category. Glue, laminate, spray paint, mounting strips — all consumables, all boring, all the actual bottleneck on finishing anything. The kit that has been sitting in a cupboard since March is in the second.
A craft cupboard that runs out of adhesive stops producing. A craft cupboard with no new kit in it does not.
Where these picks came from, honestly
Read off Amazon’s own craft chart today, rank and rating and review count together, best-sellers first. Research picks — nobody here is going to claim a personal relationship with a laminating pouch.
Our craft door has, until now, been the two things people here genuinely own and use: crochet, and a 3D printer that has had real filament opinions formed about it. This one is different and we would rather say so than dress a chart reading up as experience.
The one honest warning
The failure mode here is the pack size, not the product.
Every item above is sold in a range from small to enormous, and the enormous one is always better value per unit. That is true right up until the glue dries out, the laminating pouches turn out to be the wrong thickness for your machine, or the flat black turns out to be the wrong sheen for the chair.
Buy the small one, use it all the way through once, and then buy the pack of thirty. That is the whole trick, and it is the reason the pack of thirty is on the chart.
The picks
Elmer's Disappearing Purple School Glue Sticks, 30-count
This product appears three separate times in the top seven of the craft chart in three different pack sizes, which is a thing almost nothing else on Amazon does. It holds 4.8 stars across forty-five thousand ratings. The purple is the whole design: it goes on visible so you can see the coverage, and it dries clear so a missed patch or an overrun does not show in the finished piece.
- Best for
- Paper, card, classrooms, scrapbooking, and anyone who has glued a page down crooked because they could not see where the glue already was.
- Watch out
- It is a school glue. It is not the answer for fabric, wood, plastic or anything that will bear weight, and buying thirty of them does not change that.
Amazon Basics clear thermal laminating sheets
The number one craft product on Amazon, 4.8 stars across ninety-four thousand ratings — ahead of every kit, every paint set and every yarn. Laminating is not a craft, it is what you do to a craft so it survives being used. Recipe cards, labels, name tags, teaching materials, anything that gets handled by many hands.
- Best for
- Anything you made that will be touched repeatedly, or that lives somewhere wet — a kitchen, a workshop, a classroom.
- Watch out
- Thermal pouches need a thermal laminator, and pouch thickness has to match what the machine takes. Check the mil rating your laminator is rated for before ordering a large box of the wrong one.
Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover spray paint, flat black
Number three on the craft chart, sixteen thousand ratings at 4.6. Flat black outsells every colour, every time, because it is what people reach for when they want a mismatched set of objects to become one set — picture frames, a chair, a shelf, a batch of thrifted things that need to stop arguing with each other.
- Best for
- Unifying a group of mismatched objects, and refinishing metal or wood that is structurally fine and cosmetically tired.
- Watch out
- Flat finishes show fingerprints and are hard to wipe clean. On anything that gets handled — a door, a handle, a chair back — satin will look better in six months even though flat looks better on day one.
Command 20 lb X-Large picture hanging strips, 16 pairs
Number four, eleven thousand ratings. It is on the craft chart rather than the hardware chart because it is how finished work gets onto a wall in a house where you cannot make holes — a rental, a dorm, a plaster wall you would rather not test.
- Best for
- Renters, frames without hanging hardware, and anything that needs to come down again without an argument.
- Watch out
- The 4.4 average is the lowest of these four and it is nearly always about surface preparation. They need a clean, dry, wiped-down wall and an hour to set before load. Skipping that is what puts a picture on the floor.
