The Kitchen Storage Chart Is Mostly Drinkware
Ten of the top twenty kitchen storage best-sellers are water bottles and tumblers. Exactly one is a food storage container. Here is what that means.

Thor was handed a drinking horn at Utgard-Loki’s hall and told that a good drinker empties it in one. He drank three times, deeply enough that his face changed colour, and barely moved the level. The other end of the horn ran into the sea. He had been given a drinking vessel that was not really a drinking vessel, and nobody had thought it worth mentioning.
Ten of the top twenty are things you drink out of
Amazon’s Kitchen Storage & Organization chart, ranked by units sold, sorted by what the products actually are:
- Ten water bottles, tumblers and travel mugs — three Stanleys, three Owalas, two Thermos kids’ bottles and two others
- Three insulated lunch bags
- Three insulated food jars, one cup sleeve
- One food storage container product — a set of Rubbermaid containers
- One sponge holder, one paper towel holder
One. On a chart called Kitchen Storage & Organization, exactly one of the top twenty is a container for storing food.
Why this keeps happening
It is a taxonomy artefact, and once you see the mechanism you will spot it everywhere.
A water bottle is a container. A container is storage. So bottles file under Storage & Organization, and because insulated drinkware is one of the highest-volume consumer categories of the last five years, it does not merely appear on the chart — it buries it.
The same thing happens in the home version of this category, where half the top ten is also drinkware. It is the reason we now have a standing rule for this site: never take a “Storage & Organization” chart as a storage chart without reading the top ten first. Twice now it has turned out to be a beverage chart wearing a different name.
What that means if you are actually organising a kitchen
It means the best-seller list cannot help you, and you should stop scrolling it.
Real kitchen storage decisions are shaped by your kitchen, not by national unit volume: whether you have deep drawers or shallow ones, whether the cabinets are 12 or 15 inches deep, whether you own a pantry or a single cupboard. None of those are things a ranking can know.
The two products on this chart that are storage are both worth having — an airtight container set and vacuum sealer bags are genuinely useful — and both are already covered in our other kitchen pieces, which is why this article picks the small fixtures instead. Those are the ones nobody thinks to buy and everybody benefits from: a place for the wet sponge, and a paper towel roll that is not on the counter.
Where these picks came from, honestly
Ranks, ratings and review counts read straight off Amazon’s Kitchen Storage & Organization chart this morning, best-sellers first, and cross-checked against every product already used across this site so nothing here repeats a pick from another article. Chart node 510136.
These are research picks. The finding — that this chart is a drinkware chart — is ours, and it is the second time we have caught the same category behaving this way. The specific product reasoning about adhesive mounts and sink surrounds is general, not lived.
The one honest warning
Do not buy a container set to fix a storage problem you have not measured.
The most common kitchen organisation mistake is buying the well-reviewed set and then discovering the containers are an inch too tall for the shelf, or that the round ones waste the corners of a square cupboard, or that the lids need more clearance to clip than the drawer has.
Measure the space first — height, depth, and the swing of the door. Then buy to the space. A four-star container that fits beats a five-star container that has to live on the counter, and no ranking in the world can tell the difference between those two outcomes.
The picks
Cisily Sponge Holder for Kitchen Sink
Number seven at 4.6 stars across 14,818 ratings, and the highest-placed product on this chart that is unambiguously kitchen storage rather than something to drink out of. It solves the specific problem of a wet sponge with nowhere to drain that is not the sink edge.
- Best for
- Sinks with no built-in caddy, and anyone whose current arrangement is a sponge sitting in its own puddle.
- Watch out
- Suction and adhesive mounts both fail on textured or unsealed stone. Check what your sink surround actually is before assuming it will hold weight when wet.
Black Paper Towel Holder, Self Adhesive, Under Cabinet
Number twelve at 4.5 stars across 6,082 ratings. Under-cabinet mounting is the only paper towel solution that costs no counter space at all, which in a small kitchen is the entire argument.
- Best for
- Rentals and small kitchens, where drilling is not an option and counter depth is the scarce resource.
- Watch out
- Self-adhesive under a cabinet holds fine until someone yanks a sheet downward instead of pulling across. If your household tears rather than rolls, screw it in or expect it on the floor.
STANLEY IceFlow 2.0 Flip Straw Tumbler, 30 oz
Number three on the entire kitchen storage chart at 4.7 stars across 69,368 ratings. We are including it because pretending drinkware is not the chart's answer would be dishonest: the whole of the top five is things you drink out of, and not one of them stores anything.
- Best for
- Exactly what it says. It holds cold for a very long time, and the flip straw and carry handle are why this one and not the fifty like it.
- Watch out
- The flip straw is the part that fails, and the lid mechanism is the thing to check before the warranty runs out. This is a genuinely good product filed in the wrong category, which is the whole point of the article.
Sok It JavaSok Iced Coffee Cup Sleeve
Number eighteen at 4.8 stars across 34,313 ratings, and the highest-rated product anywhere on this chart. It exists solely to stop a cold drink sweating onto a surface, which is a real and specific annoyance nothing else on the chart addresses.
- Best for
- Anyone who sets a cold drink on wood or paper, and for car cup holders that fill with condensation.
- Watch out
- Sized to specific cup diameters. A sleeve bought for one chain's cup will be loose or unusable on another's, so measure rather than assume.
